The university will contribute significantly in developing the human resource capital by using international standards of teaching and research. It will seek to impart required skills in its graduates to make them socially and politically literate about the world around them, while encouraging active and participatory citizenship at the local, regional, national and international level. The Human Rights University will organize teaching, research and advocacy in the field of human rights.
It will provide the theoretical foundations, practical knowledge and critical evaluative tools to understand respond and help shape national, regional and international socio-economic and political developments. The Human Rights University draws on the expertise of academics, advocates and activists working around the globe and have the experience of integrating human rights values with their respective disciplines e.g. economics, law and Sociology. The university will provide necessary tools for integrating research and policy bring national and international scholars together and for improving the implementation of International Human Rights Law.
3.5.4 Why study Human Rights?
Pakistan is a signatory to many International human rights initially spelled out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) have become increasingly important for the ways in which nation states conduct their domestic and foreign affairs. At international level, politically and legally, both the sovereignty and pursuit of power-based national interest have become increasingly checked by the application of international, regional and national human rights norms and practices.
International human rights instruments like Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination of Women (CEDAW) and Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC). There is a dire need to understand the significant linkages between democracy, development, human rights and fundamental freedoms. Now the emphasis is on practical measures in the implementation of fundamental standards of humanity and finding ways to ensure that all concerned can easily review legislation and work for developing human rights culture.
